Kota

Gracie

Kota is a 6-year-old Mustang from Swasey, Utah.  She was round-up as a 7-month-old in 2020.  Her name was Nova when she came to live with us in 2024, so I changed it to Sunshine because she glistened like copper in the sun and I thought she would be a bright spot in my life.  But things went downhill quickly.  She was extremely reactive and couldn’t be ridden.  She had no trust or confidence, and her first response was to run away from anything she was unsure about.  I too was not in the best place in my life and together we started to put the broken pieces of our lives…mind, body, and spirit…back together.  She is the reason Veterans Rally Point Farm came to be.  I am so grateful for her.  After much thought, I renamed her Kota, which is an abbreviation for Dakota, meaning friend or ally.  Kota is a sensitive and intelligent mare who does her best to please and enjoys time walking in the woods.  She is doing her best to keep calm and Mustang on.

Cortez is a 6-year-old Mustang from Wyoming.  I don’t know any other details except that in January 2025 he was purchased to be sent for slaughter.  Fortunately, Mustang Valley Mustang Sanctuary in West Fulton, NY was alerted and founder Mary Debonis along with dedicated volunteers came to Cortez’s rescue.  He came to live with us in June 2025 and much to Kota’s relief became her herd mate. Cortez’s strong presence gave Kota peace knowing she had an equine friend to watch out for her.  Cortez likes to learn and is always willing to try new things.  He has a playful side and like a little boy is mischievous.

Gracie came to live with us in February 2026.  We were looking for a strong matriarch and Gracie was the perfect fit.  She is a level-headed 18-20-year-old draft.  She was a bit underweight and had a bad infection when we got her, but she is improving on both fronts.  Her presence has a calming influence on both Kota and Cortez, although Cortez does like to try and get her moving. Gracie is still getting settled but she is off to a great start.

Tater and Momma (Dunky) are momma and daughter mini donkeys.  They have been with us since around 2019.  Momma is a gentle and sweet soul.  She tries to get along and rarely puts up a fuss.  Her daughter Tater is a bit of a character ready to give a little pushback if things aren’t quite the way she thinks it should be.  They are wonderful companions and enjoy walks in the woods.

Buck and Billy the Kid were born here in 2020 and 2021.  They are half brothers and are very close.  Although they are not fond of being pet, they are curious about new people and walk well on a lead.  They love animal crackers and enjoy keeping an eye on activities on the farm.

Our two Flemish Giant bunnies and their ducky friend, Penelope. have free-range of the property.  They enjoy exploring, catching the sun rays, and nibbling on grass.

Blue holds a special place in our hearts. She is a bit of a curmudgeon of a goat and is best adored from a distance. She is the defender of the paddock and takes her job seriously.
